dynamo on david brown 780 at work on tick over puts out 12.8 volt and when on half revs puts out 16.4volt Shocked ,
now im no expert on dynamos but i would imagine that the voltage regulator is screwed,
any ideas tractor peeps Wink
would an alternator fit and do away with the dodgy dynamo Question

An alternator would be easy to fit, find one that will bolt on first then its just big wire the the live on the battery and the lil wire the the ignition switch live (when turned on)  Very Happy
Fit a bulb in the lil wire and it will go out once the engine is started to tell you it is working  Very Happy  Very Happy
Yours, works bodging machines in the yard for years Moany  Wink

We've a 990, we often thought about sticking an alternator on off something else but never got 'round to it. We're selling it now anyway, too many internationals now  Laughing
there's no reason why you can't stick an alt. on, as longs as she's plumbed in right  Very Happy

I know i'm too late but most regulators have adjustable points, if its a black lucas type take the cover off and you will see 2 sets of points with screws and lock nuts (like tappets) one set is for cut in and the other is for cut out to prevent overcharging all you need to do is adjust one of them, not sure which one thou Rolling Eyes

If it's a metal cased lucas type then they are 2 rubber plugs, remove plugs stick a scewdriver in and do the same as above.

So dont throw your old one out it's probably ok Wink

If you have a negitive earth an alt will be ok but i know old internationals do have a positve earth, dynamos can be energised to work both ways but i doubt alternators do Rolling Eyes
