We've got a Kenwood head unit with cd changer.

When we changed the alternator the stereo stopped working. Anyone got any ideas of any fuses I might have missed in my search for the reason? There is no power to it, the electric aerial has stopped and the cd changer won't kick the cds out.

I've done the usual, checked fuses, taken stereo out and checked the fuse on the back. Am I missing one? I've checked both fuse bays.

Hi, yep I'm sure. I've tried different fuses in them all and getting the same result. Thanks for the info though.

Will give that a go. Am wondering if that was something to do with the alternator going pop. Since then it's not worked.

First off try checking with a multimeter the power to the stereo itself. If no power there then you know you have an issue with the truck. You should have one with 12v constant, and another 12v igntion live. After that it depends on what your results are. If you do indeed have power to the head unit then the headunit is at fault. They have a fuse on the back of them usually that can be fragile, and sometimes in rare occasions one inside. It might also pay to check the earth lead on the car loom as well. If that is knackered then obviously it won't work. Just eliminated the earth problem on mine by running a seperate wire from the earth on the stereo and bolting it to the dash. If you have no power to the headunit then you either have to trace the wires back to the fault or simply find another source for the twopower wires and tap into them for the stereo.

Lol ... cheap fix though ... feel proud you don't have to get another head unit.

Mind its always why I pull the fuses and double check them.

This is true. Thing is though,,,,,, I DID pull the fuse but the writing on the side made it look ok. It's only cos it was sunny today that I could see through it. Abnormal size fuse too. Tiny little 7.5 thing  Laughing

They use them on modern Fords now those little fuses. About 10mm square from recollection. And yes 7.5 amp is a wierd rating as well. What happened to good old base "5".

Yeah no kidding. Things were so much easier. Well at least it's now working again. Just the cv boot and steering rack and it's MOT time. Can't wait  Rolling Eyes
