Brother-in-law has a Range Rover with what he believed to be a Mazda conversion under the bonnet. Put it in for a service and was told parts they ordered didn't fit and it turns out Isuzu filters etc are required. Anyone know if Mazda re-badge an Isuzu engine or is this a case of them incorporating Isuzu components into their production....or is it not likely to be a Mazda engine in the first place?

I'll find out more and get back to you. It's still in the garage for the service and I've never looked under the bonnet, but now I'm intrigued. He had one before which had a 4.2 in but I'm pretty sure this is a different motor, you couldn't fit a spanner in the engine bay with the last one Rolling Eyes

Forgot to ask what the engine size was, but apparently Mazda modelled it on a Perkins Shocked  I believe with my limited nonce that Perkins make/made a decent commercial engine but would Mazda use this as this basis for what I presume would be a higher performance unit? From what I remember that larger unit he had in previous RR was originally a marine engine, but that's third hand info and might be bogus.

It's highly likely to be a 2.8 isuzu engine, this was a very typical conversion, thats what give isuzu lots of respect with landy owners......... surprised no-one else mentioned it, used to get lots of Range rover owners on here in the past.

Mazda Titan

1995: Minor change. 1994 emissions standards compliance. The high output drive Isuzu 4HF1 / 4HG1 engines )

I believe thats a 4.3 TD Isuzu lump

Not saying thats your engine but it is a possibility Question

Might be a Mazda 3.5 Sli turbo intercooler unit - Its not a boat or Perkins  engine or such , its proper automotive lump 140 hp and  260 ft/lbs torque in standard trim .Was a good replacement for the 3.5efi and santana petrol  lumps.

Might even be a 2.5 IHI variable turbo lump - What an engine that is !

This is the mazda .

Thats a current model used by hyster fork lifts in the 4.5  tonne HLK  -  the  RR conversions were done by  M & D Engineering.

Parts for it are off the shelf .
