some pics from ealier post of mine ..... as you can see i've mounted mine to small rear door with a door bracket you can
get from any cb shop .... 6ft springer aerial with a quick release mount fitted (so i don't have to leave it on truck)
i get excellent coverage as adam will tell you but that may be down to my cb (apparently it's quite powerfull)
i prefer the springer part of the aerial to be below the roof line as there's alway's the chance of branches hetting caught up
in the spring and although you may have a sturdy bracket it could still rip or snap the aerial off
the bracket i have came with about 3mtrs of cable and is just enough to reach my cb which is mounted on dash ( as it's too big to mount anywhere else lol)

I've put mine in the dash - I used the brackets from the clock to make a caddy for it and a bit of painted mdf as a surround. Its quite a small CB with a mike plug on the front so it worked quite nicely.

I miss the clock though - might have to get a stick on one somewhere...

Simple answer is no, its earthed through the coax cable when you plug the cb in.
