Hi all, newby here - so after i bought the 3.0l citation i find this web site and read all the horror stories re the 3.0l!!!! (hopefully, as its a 2004 model with 12000 miles it might not be too bad!)

Anyhow, a couple of questions ----
Q1 has anyone got any top tips on a method of replacing the 'dim' standard headlight bulbs that doesnt need me to have surgery to get eyes that swivel on stalks or fingers that have universal joints?

Q2 the previous owner had spot lights fitted to an A bar that are on all the time the mainbeam is on ---- I would like to run the relay feed from the main beam through a switch --- anyone done this and can tell what colour to interupt ( looks like I have a white and (possibly) purple wires to choose from.... also any neat places to put he switch?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi dc
just look back through this forum for electrics wiring and light you'll find quite a lot of info on wire colours and how to run relays and switches

you make scrape quite a few knuckles in the proocess though when changing bulbs, the the 50% brighter one do make a difference .

enjoy

Thanks Andy - If I'd have had any sense I'd have searched through first! Looks like I'm not he only one though that wants brighter headlamps!

I use the ring 50% brighter bulbs and they did make a difference, much crisper whiter light, still not the best though hence the 100 watt spots wired up (via a relay and switch) to come on with main beam and the front fogs for murky conditions. The only other way to increase brightness would be to cut a relay into the headlamp circuit and take a big fat feed straight from the battery and use the original wire to switch the relay, this might be complicated by the dim-dip thing though. It would potentially enable you to put higher wattage bulbs in though.

Thanks Andy - have now fitted the new "50% brighter" bulbs --- just need to try them in the dark now - Oh, and I do have SOME skin left on my knuckles ----- air cleaner and expansion tank out for the n/s but left the battery in for the o/s - previous owner had fitted an extension lead from the original lamp connector that has the spot lamp feeds hard wired into the new bulb socket ---- meant I had a bit more cable to play with.

Thx again, Dave.
