The piece of box that sticks out of the bottom of the tow bar was full of holes, as this is the second bar I have put on I lost my rag with it and burnt it off Laughing

It seams to me that it is a bit of a rain trap, as the box is held on with plate at the side the water was pooling on top of the box.

I have changed the setup now, with the advantage that if I can ever get the thing of road, it can be unbolted to improve the departure angle.

Burnt off then ground flat, then holes drilled

A lick of paint (black vinal)

Fitted plate

Backing plates as well

I know the flipper is a bit poncy, but it stops me ruining my smart trousers every weekend Rolling Eyes

Finished

Yeah, a bit deceptive that.

The plate had to be mounted there, or the back doors would not close.

On the holes it's on now it is 1/2" lower than the original setup, my unit still tows nose up, which I like.

Also it's just 4 bolts to take the whole thing off, if I wanted to improve the departure angle.

Hi Matski,
Nice job with the tow bar.
I was just looking at the last pic you posted and you've given me an idea.
I have a 2.8 Mk1 and the tail gate door is rusted all along the bottom edge. I got the rust out leaving very little metal and stuck some fibre glass at the back so I could fill it but I see you've used chequered plate on yours.
Think I might do the same.

hi looks very tidy ,just a word of advise you should tow nose down and slightly nose heavy helps eliminate snaking,if you tow nose up makes for unstable towing and if heavily loaded will cauce you to possibly have an acciddent,i only know this as i tow 16 x 8 twin axle 3.5ton all day every day with my poor old troop.caravan are especialy unstable nose up,any way with your adjustable plate you can get the height right i swear buy these .good luck ,sorry to go on mark Laughing

I do tow nose heavy, also the caravan is a twin axle loaded to about 2ton covering about 500-1000 miles a week.

I have found that it tows best slightly nose up, and never gives a twitch at any speed even down hill off the gas.
