|
|
We have a 9 year old 3.1 bighorn just in from Japan - 1997
fine on long runs but in traffic, when hot, the rev counter dives to below 500, overcorrects itself by jumping up to about 800 and kangaroos forward (or backward in reverse). This is a menace in traffic. It happens when the brake is fully applied (although the vehicle doesn't go anywhere) and the rev counter dives about in neutral too
Any ideas what's happening here!
Many thanks |

i dont think the tickover is adjustable after august 95 on auto bighorns as they are drive by wire controlled by ECU its possible that the temp sensor for the ecu is playing up |

Silly me - yes
Would it be serious or just annoying? It doesn't do it apart from when hot and at slow crawling |

I'm really having problems here. The kangarooing is occuring nearly all the time now at slow speeds and stops.
this is an 1997 automatic lotus handling isuzu lwb.
It currently idles at about 750 rpm and then tries to set off at about 700 rpm with the kangarooing result.
Our 1994 automatic (perfect perfect) idles at about 1100 and sets off at about 900 rpm
Could it simply be the idle speed? and how on earth can we alter it!! It has an electronic accelerator and no hand throttle control.
We recently had timing belt and idle pulley changed - could that be a factor (garage of course claims not, but I don't trust them).
Any feedback would be much appreciated |

Thanks - we are going on Tuesday to have the timing checked at a different garage, who hopefully (!) have the right software. Will let you know how we get on. I'm not sure whether it was OK before the timing belt was changed, we had it serviced as soon as it arrived in the country and had the belt changed straight away. |

We're fixed!
The problem was the 'positioner' on the fuel pump.
Possible cause was dirt in the fuel - the tank was drained while the vehicle came from Japan
We got fixed by
a. Taking the vehicle to a very good Isuzu servicing garage. 4 fully trained mechanics (!!! - all over 30!!!) - so many of these places are just a supervisor and a load of youngsters.
b. They immediately identified the problem and sent us to a diesel engine specialist (general specialist) who fixed it.
Hope that will help anyone with a similar problem. cost around £500.00 - not too bad |
