jumping out of first gear

hi i have an isuzu trooper 2001 3.0d manual
she goes into first gear fine u move 10 feet and she throws the gear lever back at you very hard all the rest of the gears work fine, as anyone any idea what the problem is ?
is it expensive too fix ?

Not sure there are many places that repair gearboxes these days.

I would say you would be looking at swapping your old one for a re con box.

That said, mine (2.8td 1989) was stolen, when I got it back it would not select 4th, like the syncro was *beep*, I changed the gearbox and transfer case oil (common) and it solved it, mite be worth a go.

one of the most common causes of jumping out of gear is broken detent spring if this is the cause it can be replaced on the vehicle
another cause possible is the wrong grade oil in manual g/boxes i use 5W 30 fully synthetic gives the smoothest changes

Thats what I put in, and it sorted it in a couple of days.

Not convinced mine is 100% right, but I thought that 40,000 miles ago Rolling Eyes

the 3.0l suffered with a first gear synchro problem unfortunatly the only fix was to replace first gear and the synchro hub and rings costs around 6-700 pounds to fix

I had the same problem with my Land rover! I did myself and was ripped off 60p for syncro hub springs! Wink
