|
|
Hi, have just purchased a 2002 trooper 3.0 TD SWB, when the shift on the fly switch is pushed in, the indicator light just flash's and the car won't go into 4wd.
Is this likely to be the same problem with electrics as the one where the light stays on all the time.
Any help at all would be most weclome.
Thanks Andy. |

Hi ya! I had a similar problem on my 3.1, and that simply was the switch on the solenoid on the front axle. Worth checking the security of connections and the vacuum hoses. Incidentally without sounding rude you are not trying to put it in 4x4 on the road are you? |

Hi Peej, thanks for the quick reply. did you have to replace the switch on the solenoid? is this fairly straight forward?
Yes attemped to put into 4wd when car was in motion, by using shift on the fly switch due to poor driving conditions.
Dash light just flashed so switched it off again!
Cheers pal. |

My switch was replaced in a garage, they supplied and fitted it for free, don't think it's much of a job though. If you have a poke about here you find there is a manual to download which would be handy for you. 4x4 really shouldn't be engaged on firm surfaces as you will suffer from transmission wind up, on soft ground this wind up will spin out via the wheels, on firm surfaces the grip
stops this and there is a chance you could break something mechanical. |

The connections on the axle are prone to corrosion from road salt so it's worth taking them off & cleaning etc. _________________ 1994 KZJ70 Cruiser (currently filling the garage and causing some head scratching)

Hi
also worth checking the vacumn pipes too
try putting it in 4WD whilest stationary
or gentley moving forwards/backwards
keep on putting in and out until it gets smoother
if it hasn't been used very much they get very
sticky and slow
cheers

Further to GMs answer......you should try to occasionally use 4WD to keep the oil sloshed around and stop everything getting sticky, but don't do it on tarmac! _________________ 1994 KZJ70 Cruiser (currently filling the garage and causing some head scratching)

Hi
i flick mine in every week on a straight piece of road
just long enough to engage
then i dis engage it
never had a problem yet
but better if the road is wet
and don't leave it in 4WD for any amount of time longer than it takes to
go in and out or it could wind up as stated earlier
this makes all the parts work and ensures they don't stick
cheers

Cheers mate, will check the various things out when i get a chance. Can you confirm that when the system is working and its in 4wd that the dash light stays on.
Thanks to everyone who's replied so far.

Just to let you know, at long last, I got a chance to have a closer look at this problem today!
Dropped the metal skid plate and plastic protector in front of the axle, to expose the axle switch etc.
And that was where the problem was, both switch wires were effectively cut flush to the top of the switch!
Have managed to remove some of the resin which encased the terminals in the switch body and solderd wires directly to these and reconnected them to the cars loom.
Made the connections water tight with some silicon.
Tested system and all seems to be working fine, happy days!!!
Does anyone know where I can get a new switch from via mailorder?
Once again thanks for everyones help.
All the best Andy. |

Might be worth phoning an Isuzu dealer or breakers and asking if they will bob one in the post - i dont think they are available from the aftermarket guys (milners etc) _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

I got mine done for free, due to my father in law being a right so and so (he is Scottish) but I think I'm right in saying the switch was about £25 from Vauxhall. Glad you found the problem though. |

Thanks mate for the tip about it being a vauxhall part, didnt know this!
Just found a brand new one on eebuygum for a vauxhall looks the same to me, just bought it for £5.00 plus a bit of P&P hopefully it'll do the trick.
All the best Andy. |
