hi all
I know this is a stupid question but how do you change the bulbs in the headlights? There's so much stuff behind & I've got roo bars so would like to know before I try to dismantle everything.
I've got so peed off with the lack of light on the standard dips I bought some blue/white ones to hopefully improve them

Mike

I've just done the very same thing to my 91 2.8Td Mk 1. It's very simple, on the N/S you just need to lift the coolant reservoir off it's bracket and you have access to the rear of the headlight, unplug, pull the rubber boot of and you can then unclip the bulb, on the O/S I removed the battery as it was disconnectyed as I had been doing some welding and again access is pretty easy. I used the Ring 60% brighter ones and they did make a difference, I'm glad it's not only me that thinks the standard lights are rubbish! (I have a big set of spots for main beam/off road work)

I'd avoid bulbs with the blue coating as it actually cuts down the amount of light just to get that trendy "modern headlight" look, I went with the ring 60% as they were reccomended by a guy I trust and my local spares place had them in stock, but the Philips Vision Plus or Osram Silver stars are as good. Try http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk/ if you want to buy them online.

Thanks for the advice, sorry i took so long to reply, been a bit busy.

Guess wot i bought instead of doing some research like you did? That's right - bluish & no brighter. So I 've sold these to a boy racer friend (even made a coupla quid, good old eebuygum), and am investigating the options for a BRIGHT light like you suggested.
Honestly, the dipped headlights are *beep* aren't they?

I know what you mean about the blinding headlights so bright I can see for miles{YEA RIGHT} I can see more when there's a car behind me. I am going to change my bulbs too. Hopefully will be a lot better, would certainly be better on the country roads where I now live in Wales.

Any way MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I haven't been out properly in the dark yet but they do seem to be somewhat brighter and crisper. It may be worth getting an MoT station to check the aiming on the lights but TBH I think they are just a poor design. It can be worth upgrading the earth connections to the lights by adding a wire directly to the negative side of the battery from the light housing (I am assuming that they already go via a relay on the +tive side) You only need to lose 10% of power to the lights to lose 30% of the light output. I grew up drivingg old british cars with tungsten headlamps so compared to that these are bright!

Of course you could always join the ever increasing band of f***wits and drive around with your front fog lights on all the time (I even saw a disco driver joining the boy racers yesterday). Sheesh, the Fast and Furious has a lot to answer for.
