Is it possible to have seats fitted to a LWB trooper that originally is designed for 5 seats?
If so, where do you get them from?
Approximately how much would it cost to buy them and fit them?
Are they sfe, and do they have any detrimental effects on the vehicles handling, safety etc?
Thanks for your help. |

There were some original third row seats available. But I am not sure if they were ever offered in Europe. They were never offered in the US. That is for sure. So far I have only seen them for the versions sold in Asia:

I fitted 4 extra bench seats in my Monterey myself.
The supplier was "Scotseats" (in Scotland...)
My insurance company saw it as a modification, and load the annual premuim by £200, though...

I have a third row fitted in my LWB. I needed a six seater so made a lot of enquiries about having them fitted.
The official line is Isuzu will NOT fit them other than at the factory as an extra. UK dealers will NOT fit them as UK insurance companies will not cover the vehicle unless factory fitted. Some accessory companies will supply bench seats which fit sideways (along the side rather than front facing). There are no seat belt fittings for these so if a man in blue sees someone sat on one while your driving, 3 points on the licence and £60 fine. Also the insurance company will not cover them.
Hope this helps _________________ Flashman

Re seatbelts, insurance, etc;
The Scotseats option comes with seatbelts.
Adrian Flux insured me on the basis of the vehicle being modified at around £200+ above my usual premium.

i didnt realise the uk troopers had no 3rd row seats ??? seems a bit odd.
i have a jap import bighorn and the rearmost seats with the seatbelts are great and just about big enough to seat an average sized adult - im 5'10" and not so slim anymore and had no problems at all sitting in them for a 40 min journey, of course all day would have been too much imo.
for children 7 or 8 and up they are ideal. my 10 yr old son loves riding in the very back.
the downside is that the rear seats even though really well designed do obviously take up quite a bit of load space even when stowed away. i've read they are easily removable in about 20 mins but havent looked into it more than that - no need so far.
the seats themselves wont affect handling/breaking etc but obviously a well laden vehicle drives diferently to a lightly loaded one, with a full load of 7 bodies you will need to brake sooner and dont go round bends too fast etc..
hope you manage to sort somthing out |

My Scotseats ones are, errm, "basic" and certainly not of OEM quality.
However, I therefore don't mind as much if nasty substances such as bike chain oil and fast food ketchup are spilt on them.
They are really only suitable for children up to 11-ish. But very sueful for when the truck is used as a school bus.
The good point is that they fold up above the wheelarches, so don't take up much useable space.
They were fitted by me in around half a day and cost around £600.00.

I've just recently brought a LWB Trooper, H Reg '93, 4 weeks ago. It has fold up side facing rear seats that appear to be original fittings (all the trim and uphostery match). They fold up well out of the way when not in use but are only really suitable for children or short journeys for adults, there is not much headroom at the back. You can get two people each side on them, taking the total seating up to 9. They don't have any seatbelts though. I wasn't aware that the law required seatbelts on all seats if not originally factory fitted as Flashman is suggesting, I would be interested if anyone could supply more info on the law regarding seatbelts. |

Hi All
Been away for a while so not been able to reply earlier.
I had a MK 1 with the bench seats factory fitted, one bench each side with two seats. When I bought it my insurance were told it was a nine seater and they never commented. However a couple of years later I changed insurance companies and they refused to cover the use of the bench seats as no seat belts are fitted. They also claimed that a nine seater vehicle changes use from a PLV (private light van) to a mini bus. DVLA confirmed this and that a mini bus requires an MOT and a safety certificate from NEW and the insurance rocketed.
My new one has two normal seats factory fitted in the rear and so is a seven seater. I have just had my car tax reminder which included a leaflet about extra seats. I only skimmed it but the jist was if your car has seating for nine people or more it needs an MOT and PSC (passenger safety certificate) from new. The vehicle would also change taxation classes and you must apply to the nearest DVLA office immediately. I binned the form as I did not think I would need it.
On the seatbelt issue with my MK 1. A neighbour was a traffic policeman and I was talking to him about this one day. HIS interpretation of the law was that for each seat in the car there must be an individual sealtbelt. Unless the vehicle was manufactured before the magic date back in the early 80's This applied to factory fitted or other fittings. I never used mine after this, just in case.
I must point out this was my experience and others may see it differently. _________________ Flashman

Any ideas where to purchase Isuzu 3rd Row OEM Seats? I have a 2000 Isuzu Trooper that I need to outfit with Isuzu Factory Third Row Seats made of gray, velour, cloth. I'll need the seats with their locks attached, belts, and the floor anchorage bar. Also the rear grab handles and the hooks and ties for stowage. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Mike Baranoff

The US spec is probably different to the European version but from personal experience fitting the Isuzu seats is NOT an option. In the UK no dealer would supply the seats. The rear floor is different on the factory fitted seat version to the non fitted. There are extra supports fitted underneath and on the wheel arches. The side panneling is also different. As I posted earlier, I spent a lot of time trying to find a 7 seater and talked to a lot of dealers here in the UK. Each told the same story, we would not attempt to fit them if we could obtain them for you.
Maybe you have some US based specialist who can offer an alternative. _________________ Flashman

Sorry, the buyer of my Trooper has asked me to withdraw my offer of a pair of official 3rd row seats while he decides if he wants them. If he changes his mind and they come available again I will put them on the sales page. |
