Just noticed a considerable (dribble dribble) fuel leak from somewhere about a half foot forward of the tank. Not sure where its coming from but it looks oily when I pick it up from the road as if there's oil mixed in.

Is this the end of our beloved Trooper? Hate to wait for the garage on Monday so thought I;'d ask the geniuses here.

I'm prepared to be that you've got a leaking front pinion oil seal on the rear diff and that its not diesel but gear oil. Is it thrown all over the underside in a strip if you get under with a torch? A seal is about a fiver and the labour won't be much. I had mine changed and I think it cost me about fifty quid all in plus the new oil. If it is disel then its probably just a bit of fuel pipe that needs replacing but I'd lay money on it being the diff.

Hi,
Its a petrol car. Thanks to all who have replied so far.

Phil, I'm pretty sure its petrol and not gear oil. I had the diff changed some time ago after a long gear oil leakfest and this is definitely thinner and reeks just like petrol.

Sorry, thought it was an oil burner, in which case as has been said it'll prbably be fuel pipes from the tank. Shouldn't be expensive to replace them.

There's no way it could be mixing with oil (from the engine) could it? I had no oil today when I checked so drove to get some and fill up. When I got home I found the big "petrol" leak. It smells of petrol and has the watery consistency of petrol but its oily too. I've leaked my fair share of oil on the road so maybe its just oily from that. I hope so...

It could well just be washing oil off the axle etc from your previous oil leak add to that some mud/road muck and you'll get oil. I bet theres a nice clean patch under there now where its dripping!

Fuel leak fixed. Other fuel lines heavily corroded and needing fixing. I'm booking Isuzu in for the fuel system and brakes to be done at same time.

Hopefully the ABS light will go off after the brakes have been fixed.

Sadly, its time to say goodbye to our much loved and much enjoyed Trooper. Its on eebuygum now with all the flaws and features included. I hope someone can make good use of it.

Its with genuine sadness that I sell this car, but the mpg is too high and the garage estimate for the repairs needed go out of our budget. As its getting too old now I don't think I'm the right owner. Someone mechanically minded is needed and I hope it does go somewhere where it will be repaired and used. The chassis is solid enough. I think its just been pecked to death by the little things.

I'd like to thank everyone here (especially PhilP) for the many bits of support and advice I have received over this car over the years. Its been a joy to be an Isuzu owner and I can honestly say its the best car I have ever owned.
