I think you will find a 10w40 temperature range will cover everything this country has to offer.

Just had a look,but why is synthetic regarded as too thin? A 10w40 synthetic is still the same viscosity as a 10w40 mineral. I understand the argument on the value of putting it an older engine, but viscosities like for like are the same.
