Whilst researching on our selection of 4WD to purchase, I stumbled across a web-site detailing all the driveable rivers in the UK - hundreds of them. It features classics such as Tarr Steps on Exmoor and also some relatively unknown "short-cuts" - some of which were hundreds of metres long and/or 1m deep!
Having now decided on a Trooper, I need to complete my research of local green lanes and other "obstacles." Does anyone know of this really useful site, arranged by county and complete with Grid References and some pretty wicked photos! Googling for "ford" results in millions of adverts for Fiestas and Mondeos while "Exmoor" and "Tarr Steps" finds loads of tourist sites...

safe depth?
Depends how clean the water is. Alternators don't like dirty water. round about just below headlight height i reckon, but check your breather pipes aren't blocked and are still connected, and high enough. and be prepared to strip the hubs down afterwards and regrease _________________

Interesting!
Anybody got a rule-of-thumb as to the maximum safe depth a 3.0 Trooper can wade through without snorkels and stuff?
I think Vauxhall put the standard frontera at 500MM, i would imagine a standard trooper may be a little over that but im sure many on here have been deeper
Cheers

In a mk1 I have had water just on the bonet with a good bow wave.
Seen lots of mk2s with the head lights under. _________________ Front Aussie Locker - Rear LSD - Petrol Diffs

Had my mk2 pushing a wave and just lapping on the bonnet with no snorkel, so glad the air intake points backwards, i've got gear box and diff breathers extended up theh bulk head. _________________ landcruiser 80 series 4.5, 35's/33's for road, 2inch lift, discreet winch, sliders/armour, factory lockers, stainless side exit +++++
