|
|
Simple question really.
Is it legal to use SVO in France or other places in Europe?
I have been running 30%+ SVO all winter with no problems at all ('93 Bighorn 3.1Td) and I intend to drive to south of France again this summer and at the price that I'm buying vegi oil I'm going to take some/lots with me.
Am I likely to get nicked or is it the same grey area as here?

one of the lads on the mercedes site i belong to ,did a drive round europe to highlight the advantages of using veggy oil..........and what he found was.............ITALY :its illegal to use veggy oil.............GERMANY:you have to pay duty on it...............EASTERN EUROPE:most countries like poland, yugoslavia and such..........they dont say you can use it,but then again its not illegal,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FRANCE AND SPAIN:it is a bit of a grey area but i've never had any problems driving through these countries on SVO
AS FOR THIS COUNTRY,its not a grey area any more, you are allowed 2500 litres a year(about 15,000 miles worth) without paying duty on it.............only stipulation is that you keep reciepts of what you have bought,so if customs and excise stop you ,you can prove you havent used more than 2500 litres _________________ '92 2.8TD SWB TROOPER.............SOLD

Anyone who puts vegetable oil 'aside' for use as fuel is in effect a 'producer' and has a 2500 litre allowance.
HMRC terminology is strange and some officers don't understand exactly how these regulations work but a number of people took the time to get the correct position from those high up in HMRC who deal with biofuel taxation policy.

In the south of france, they use heating oil all the time! Mate of mine has a house there, and everyone has an oil tank in their garages! (and you dont really need heating oil there!) They all have derv cars and run them on that! They seem to get away with it. |
