Can anyone assist?

I have a problem selecting 4-wheel drive, in my R reg Isuzu trooper 3.1 TD.

Then you select the 4 wheel drive (Shift on the fly), when moving or stationary, It DOSEN’T activate, or it may after five/ten minuites maybe !!!!

If you switch the engine off and select 4-wheel drive it may activate, it may NOT

If you leave it in 4-wheel drive for a period of time like an hour and start the car it will engage.

Any suggestions please

Thanks JIM

I was starting to have this problem early this year on my 180,000 mile lwb trooper. It then needed its first new clutch, which wasn't bad for that mileage, and my dealer diagnosed the selection problem as bearing wear on the lay shaft in the box. They even managed to change the bearing through one of the inspection covers with the engine and gearbox in the vehicle (but obviously apart - whilst clutch was being renewed) hence saving me a fortune.

Yours could possibly be the same??

Regards

T
