i.m/isuzu have now called in the dvla to check for troopers that have missed any recall notices. along with this they are issuing a cut off date whereas they will not pay for any more work to be done to the engines. at the minute they are still paying in full for engines to be rebuilt you just have to find a good dealer who will take up your fight for you. the idea is to cut any more losses and say this is it we will tell you what recalls you need doing if any and it's up to you to get them done if you don't and you have been told to and it goes bang we won't pay for it anymore.
so hopefully any of you that are not sure will find out for definate now (seems to be a lot around the v reg mark) you will get a letter through in the post from the dvla i suppose telling you what is outstanding and it should be free as far as i can tell.

Does this apply only to UK supplied cars. Mine is registered with the DVLA as a UK supplied car but My local dealer has found out that it came in via Cyprus and had no warranty. It is a 3.0td late 2001 model.

if it's registered with i.m then probably yes but if they don't have your chassis no. then i would of thought no.

I've just had my Duty serviced at Tileys of Bristol, the service manager went to great lengths to instill in me the need to extend the manufacturers warrenty (it turned out this would cost me £1,095). He showed me a lump of metal with three 'O' rings on it with a titanium tip which had "melted", he informed me that in a worst case senario it would cost me £9,000 to replace the engine, I assume this is what you're discussing in this topic. I am scepitical by nature and thought this was a sales pitch for the insurance, although I had heard of turbo issues with 3.0td Troopers.
I am about 450 miles shy of 60,000 miles at which point the original manufacturers warranty finishes (the service mentioned was the 60,000 service) - mine is a 'Y' reg. I did ring International Motors in W. Bromwich sometime ago (just after buying the Trooper from Triangle of Chesterfield) and was told by their Customer Care Manager that according to their records there where no outstanding warrenty issues with my vehicle. Is it worth trying W. Bromwich again just in case and specifically mention the turbo/injector issue?
Whether its £1,095 or nine grand I still couldn't find it.

It is registered with I M as they sent someone down to check the car when 'the history' first appeared. They were more than helpful and offered to support me with any court case I made against the seller. Despite IM, the Police, Trading Standards and Uncle Tom Cobberley there wasn't enough HARD evidence that the seller/importer had done anything wrong according to the CPS. But enough of that. Its got to be more than just coincidence
Isuzu have reverted to a revamped version of the earlier 3.1 engine for the Rodeo, a heavy suggestion, if one was needed, that the more modern flawed 3.0TD engine has burn't a few fingers (and holes in wallets). What happened to vigorous development testing (too distruction) in other words do companies still trial new products before shoving them at the public?
I liked my Trooper, even though 4x4s in general are recieving the attentions of C Company, Enviromentalists for saving the Lesser Spotted Blade of Grass Brigade. Like me it was beautiful, big, definately a bit on the heavy side and thirsty. But I loved it.
Fellow Trooperists I've had to cut my losses, I can not expose family finances to the risk of rebuilding up to £9ks worth of busted 3.0 ltr diesel so I've sold it. One day I may be tempted by another 4x4 but I have my doubts it'll be a GM/Isuzu product. Cheerio..and the very best of luck! Wink

To Saltr - & will the poor b"$$&r who bought it be on here soon asking why in the name of Isuzu has the bloody thing exploded?!?! Rolling Eyes

So, we're all agreed the 3.0TDi engine is cr.... rubbish; that Isuzu know it; so why aren't those of us facing these horrendous bills getting together & grabbing Isuzu by the differentials ( Embarassed sorry, no idea what that means, but hope it's painful) and insisting that they put the matter right - either by rebuilding existing engine, if that can be done satisfactorily and enable the Troop to live a full and active life, of the normal expectancy?

I am more than happy to collate a list of people/vehicles who are at the moment, have been in the past, or are potentially at risk in the future of the Killer Trooper disease. I am no.1 on the list!

There has to be a way of cleaning up Isuzus act, getting to as many of these vehicles rebuilt and if they won't co-operate I suggest we go for compensation for loss of vehicle (so far 6wks) & enjoyment.....
then we can all live happy ever after: What chance?! Mad

If any Trooper owners want to check whether recall work has been done either phone a dealer, or phone IM directly - IM can tell you not only if there is any work outstanding but also exactly what work was applicable to your vehicle and when it was carried out.

I sold it to 'the trade' as a PX.
The vehicle I presented to the dealer was in good working order with a FSH (dealer), including a cam belt change. An excellent car, exactly what you, I or for that matter anyone else should expect of a vehicle that hasn't quite made its third birthday yet. Any information about engine problems that my Trooper may or may not have experienced is incidental. I wasn't warned by the main Isuzu dealer in Derbyshire, when I bought our Trooper 16 or so months ago that there was an 'issue' with the injector system, of course I wasn't - they didn't want to tell me because I wouldn't have handed over my cash!. Are you therefore suggesting that I should carry Isuzu/GM guilt on this issue?
I have been told that because the Trooper is a niche vehicle it may be sold to the local main Isuzu dealer - I find that ironic.
I'm all for Isuzu being held to account, I don't hold out much hope, but all the best.

It's more a case of the self-perpetuating situation - as in our case.
The dealers bought the car @ auction, obviously thinking it was a bargain & not being Isuzu specialists, having no idea of the potential problems it could present.
I guess it was sent to Auction by someone who was well aware of the problem, & who, like you, had to cover their initial outlay.
Everyone else pays except Isuzu. Great isn't it!! Twisted Evil

Yes, I agree it isn't right that Isuzu have failed in its 'moral duty' to sort this issue out.
Here in the UK the Isuzu brand is niche, even within the 4x4 market. I suggest it wouldn't have cost a fortune to have offered existing 3.0TD Trooper owners the chance to have a warrented modification at the companys expense (I'm firmly of the opinion that the company has not found a suitable solution to the injector problem or intends to devote further time and money to it) or, perhaps, a substantial discount on a Rodeo, even if this ment being compelled to keep silent about 'issues' relating to the brand in return, this would have protected the brand image. It probably doesn't help that Isuzu is represented in the UK by an independent importer - that is not a criticism of IM, which is arguably as much a victim over this issue as their customers.
On a personnal level, I didn't take offence at your remark. You had every right to make it. You are correct in your assertion that someone else will probably pick up what appears to be a bargain at an auction, possibly only to have their dreams shattered in the future. I retiterate that I presented the dealer with which I PXed my Trooper with a fully serviced, functioning vehicle (see previous reply). Anyone who buys my or other Troopers, has the opportunity to research the mark before they buy. Something I, regretably, failed to do as thoroughly as I should have done.
The victims in this fiasco, aside from Trooper owners, is Isuzu. For I believe it is the brand and the sales of their vehicles which will suffer. GM took the hatchet to Isuzu a few years ago because of spiralling losses especially in Japan, it is possible the the companys reaction to the problems of this flawed engine is a symptom of those losses.

As a new user I am somewhat bewildered by all this but I bought a new 3.0 trooper in september 2003 serviced it 1,6,&12,000 miles as per the book now has 16,327 miles on the clock & a blown up engine.apparently it put diesel into the oil.Nearly killed me as well can anyone advise as the importer into Northern Ireland is not being at all helpful. Confused

wazza you are not the only one who is somewhat taken aback by the events you described. At the start of the 21 Century, you don't expect a manufacturer with a previously robust record to treat their customers in this way, but that exactly how Isuzu are treating their customers. I assume you have the original warranty in place, then it should be repaired. See some of the posts on this forum and get a lawyer.
I have been told that Isuzu dealers in the UK are not taking Troopers in PX anymore (as of two weeks ago). Is anyone prepared to comment?

asked about extending dealer warranty and was informed that it would cost me 1095£ but would have a capped mileage of 50000 miles after this the warranty would be void, I could however take out a none mileage capped warranty for a touch under 4000£. Back to nissan for me even though i really like my trooper its just not worth the risk
