What engine?? if it's the 1.0 thats in your sig...... the idle valve is common, it's a stepper motor that will be on the trottle body, black thing that goes near the throttle cable/butterfly. can't do anything with them fit new and bin old! as far as i can remember it needs to be taught it's stop points with tech 2.

The vectra's had a cylindrical type valve, you could clean them out. it sounds like it wants a stepper motor, it'd worth getting the fault code read out of it first tbh, the egr's caused running problems too! does sound like the idle stepper though! again can't remember if it needs re teaching it's stops it has been 6 years  Very Happy

might give the rac a ring (changed from the aa as they were cheaper) and see if they can come and have a look at it, be cheaper than taking it to a garage and geting charged £50 just to plug it in to a computer Wink

Don't bother getting the codes, as without running through the full fault diagnosis the codes can send you in the wrong direction!

If it's got the black idle control in the back of the throttle body, they can sometimes be cleaned with carb cleaner and wd40 but usually not. New ones aren't too expensive & genuine is best. When you put a new one in set the length of the plunger at (from memory!) 23mm. It will reset itself the 1st time you start it after a couple of minutes of revving at 3000, don't touch anything while it goes through the process. Doesn't need Tech2.

Check to see if it has EGR and if it has blank it off. Some have it some don't. Even if this isn't causing a problem it will do sooner or later. Plates & correct instructions available on eebuygum. A brilliant mod and done by VX themselves!! I have a spare proper blanking plate (genuine GM!) if you need it.

The 1.0 has an external stepper motor that actuates where the cable goes on, The egr is on the end of the head above the gear box, has coolant housing there too  Wink

Shocked  Shocked  if it's not running or idling right it'd prob put an air mass fault in there anyway! see it all the time and ignore it till determined if it's something else causing the fault!!
