Hello

I am going offraod soon in my truack and have realised that i need form and rear recovery points, suitable for snatch recovery. Has anyone got any experience of fitting these to a rodeo or know anywhere i can get some from or do i have to make my own. I have an 07 new shape rodeo for information.

Andy

Don't know anything about Rodeos, but generally it's always advisable to have a "Rated" recovery point fitted front & rear especially when you are using snatch recovery techniques. If it is designed as an off-road vehicle (not just a road vehicle with 4WD capability) then it will have a susbstantial hook built in at the front. If it has, then it is advisable to use the manufacturer fitted recovery point as it will have been rated for the vehicle.I don't know whether the Rodeo is a monocoque unibody or chassis and this does limit your options if the former.

If the vehicle has a tow bar, please note that the 50mm ball hitch will probably not be rated for kinetic recovery and may become a lethal weapon if it snaps off. However, if the ball is removed and a rated eye bolted in it's place and the hitch carrier assembly is properly attached to the chassis rails (if you have them). If you have chassis rails and no tow hitch, then 2 rated eyes plus a suitable bridle between them, will provide a good recovery point and balanced pull on the chassis. It goes without saying that this stuff should be purchased from reputable off-road specialists and not from justanyoldtrader@eebuygum.co.uk.

Always use rated Bow type shackles and when recovering using this method, it is not advisable to have anyone standing around within 50'' of the vehicles. Sorry to go on a bit, but every year someone gets killed or seriously injured using kinetics. Hope this helps...
