on prices for certain models
it would be a used one i'm after and and have seen a few on daid site in good nick going for half rp ..so can save quite a
few pennies

To be totally honest the make meant a lot in the 80's because there was 3 or more million people fighting over 40 channels
these days theres nobody on there so you dont have to worry about channel bleedover etc.
I would spend my money on a linear amp, maybe a 25 watt one to boost output a bit (Illegal )
But yes Midland was in the best list,,, be carefull if you do buy one as a lot on fleabay are AM and we use 27mhz FM
know as UK40 or UK80 _________________ |

|
|
I did my bike test some years back and after passing it I asked the instructor what bike should I get and he said Get the biggest because sooner or later you will get the biggest so save yeah money and go get a big un in the first place.
So what is my point here? well you can go buying Midland Alans and Superstars but in the end you will end up with a Magnum 257 they are not cheap but the write ups they get and the sound quality is equal to the Uniden 2830 and they do 25w out the back so no need for that linear amp taking up more room and needing more cables to boot.
The Magnum even got the power mike on it and you can turn it up inside the mic in order to get your voice over onto the surface of Mars.
The Midlans are nice and quite cheap too but in the end you will go for the big un so save yourself brass and opt for the Magnum 257 its AM FM SSB and got more bands than the salvation army for you to play with. |

Problem is with FM, use of a big linear amp will suffer from the hetrodyne effect with the signal being "squashed" when competing with another local FM signal. In the good old AM days, bigger boots meant longer range and the supression of the opposition... _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

I got my foundation HAM licence a year or so ago, but cannot remember much!
I use an old Jesan Pro 8000 CB 40ch rig, standard 4W with a Wilson 3000 whip - one of the best CB whips in my humble opinion.
I quite fancy buying a newer rig that does 10W (my legal limit) and also covers the CB realm, but to be honest I'll probably buy this:
Intek CB @ Thunderpole
It's about £100, has great features, has a front firing speaker so perfect for in dash trooper fitting, and has a roger bleep - perfect for annoying other breakers.
Used to have my Sadelta Echo Master Plus classic desk mike on the dash of my XR4i....was weird but fun!
I'm not a burner or linear amp fan. No point getting out further than you can pull in, and no point amplifying all the noise in your system.
I use CB for marshalling boredom, and for laning convoys, little else, never many people on anymore apart from the churches doing broadcasts (which I thought was illegal - unless they have special permission) _________________ Cheers
