You don't need to touch the fan to do the belt. |
How do you get it over it then ... feed it through the vanes? |

Spin the fan and work it over, trust me it goes over easy. _________________ Front Aussie Locker - Rear LSD - Petrol Diffs

So so glad you said that. I thought it might be the case but knowing my luck it wouldn't ... however this time I am wrong. Job to do tomorrow me thinks. |

I really like that, I think if I could find a decent one I'd happily go back to a MK1, theres one near me in that same deep blue that has what looks like a factory aluminium roofrack, looks really smart. _________________ Phil

Yup ... just the one battery. Ok changed the fan belt today (just under an hour) and it diddly squat about the squeeling. Must be the exhuast manifold or gasket. Going to worry about that later. First off need to strip the Cavalier and get rid of the shell. |

I have found nipping the bolts up can sort this. Don't rush out and buy new gaskets till you have tries tighting the bolts _________________ Front Aussie Locker - Rear LSD - Petrol Diffs

Just a thought, try giving the belts a quick squirt of belt dressing and see if that stops the noise. Sometimes it can be down to the belt being slightly the wrong shape/too wide too narrow or even the pulley being warn. the belt dressing makes them a bit sticky temporarily and so will show you if the belt is really the problem. _________________ Phil

I managed to get to the top ones and they were a bit loose. Couldn't get to the botom ones as everything was in the way and light was fading. Will attack it later. Go to get rid of the cav first. |

Good point Philp, very few people take account of pulley wear, the belt should be driven on its sides not the bottom..... _________________ Khotso........... |

It would have to wear some to get to the bottom! _________________ Front Aussie Locker - Rear LSD - Petrol Diffs

I tried the WD40 trick on the old belt and it did nothing. Will have to have another go with the new one. My thoughts are now on the exhaust gasket. The top bolts weren't too bad. Knowing my luck though the bottom ones will all snap off and thats me knackered. Though if I could get it off by jiggling it and slap a new gasket on with a little gum I would be happy. |
