Whats the legal requirement for rear bumpers for MOT etc.
I have just taken mine off to do some repairs and i'm getting a custom rear bumper made.
Trouble is my MOT is due probably before i get my bumper finished, will it pass an MOT without it.
I have noticed a few troops on here without back bumper, Twisters is one i think so i assume it will be ok. _________________

Doesn't matter for the MOT. Bumpers aren't a testable item. |

All the MOT says is that there should be no sharp corners, and if a bumper is in place it should have end caps on i.e. no open ended tube. _________________

I took bumper off in the dark and been out this morning in daylight and it appears that the rear cross member needs sorting, been reading your post Marky when you did yours so here goes.
Let you know later how i get on. _________________

The MOT fail criteria for sharp edges is - Sharp or jagged edges due to accident or corrosion
Therefore sharp edges due to an intentional act (eg, unbolting and removing a bumper but leaving the brackets on) is not a fail.
It sounds silly but a rusty and perforated wheel arch is a fail, but you can put door steps on, sticking out six inches with razor sharp guillotine cut edges and it's a pass. |
