Whats the legal requirement for rear bumpers for MOT etc.

I have just taken mine off to do some repairs and i'm getting a custom rear bumper made.

Trouble is my MOT is due probably before i get my bumper finished, will it pass an MOT without it.

I have noticed a few troops on here without back bumper, Twisters is one i think so i assume it will be ok.

Doesn't matter for the MOT. Bumpers aren't a testable item.

All the MOT says is that there should be no sharp corners, and if a bumper is in place it should have end caps on i.e. no open ended tube.

The MOT fail criteria for sharp edges is - Sharp or jagged edges due to accident or corrosion

Therefore sharp edges due to an intentional act (eg, unbolting and removing a bumper but leaving the brackets on) is not a fail.

It sounds silly but a rusty and perforated wheel arch is a fail, but you can put door steps on, sticking out six inches with razor sharp guillotine cut edges and it's a pass.
