I am trying to work out how you fit a roof rack on my 99 LWB Trooper. Looking at the roof I can see plastic covered strips built it the top and I am guessin that these are somehow removed....Can anybody please explain the correct way of doing this? I found myself reaching for a large scredriver ready to start prying, but thought better of it at the last minute... Rolling Eyes

Don't interfere with these strips until or unless you are going to fit roof rails or an Isuzu rack both of which utilise the captive fittings in the roof. They are fully waterproofed and should you fit the rails or the rack, the kit comes with silicone sealant to maintain the integrity of the roof.
Should you wish to fit roof rails, the Isuzu ones will cost around £400. However, on my last two Troopers (3.1 and 3.0) I have fitted those for the Opel/Vauxhall Monterey which are not only made by THULE! but are approximately half the price of the Japanese ones.
If you want to go ahead with the rails the best thing is to drill holes in the strips (OFF THE CAR), rather than cut the strips as suggested. This ensures that th strips fit nice and snugly back when the rail mounts are on. Hope this lot answers your question.

I have a 2001 SWB Trooper with the mentioned plastic roof strips. On investigation I found they can be removed quite easily by getting your fingers behind them and gently prising off. Underneath you with find a standard roof rack fixing flange, identical to that on Vauxhall Astra's, Corsa's, Ford Escorts etc! There are no holes through the skin of the roof that I can see - Maybe only the LWB has them.

Because I only use my roofrack occassionaly, I brought a Paddy Hopkirk ladder rack, with a converter kit for roof fixings, total cost about £35.00! When using it I store the roof strips in the garage, and have found that they can be refitted and removed numerous times without any problem.

A lot cheaper than the £400 for an Isuzu rack!
