|
|
Hello, sorry to be so demanding in a first post but I really need to get the bloody thing going again.
I've got a 96 LWB Trooper Citation with many, many miles on it.
For some reason though the windows stopped working today and in addition the ABS light is stuck on.
Casting around for a reason (tried the power window breaker, not the problem) I discovered that the 10A fuse labelled "Elec Ig" (fourth one down on the left side of the fuse box0 was blown - tried to replace it and it blew again (twice) with an audible snap.
Checking all the other electrics I notice that the mirror heaters and the rear screen demister both seem to be kaput, so I was wondering whether there is any connection between the windows, the demister and this enigmatic "ELEC IG" fuse.
Otherwise I'm at a loss, does anyone please have any suggestions? |

Sounds like you have a short in the circuit somewhere. I'm not familiar with these but I'm sure someone will be along any minute who can help. _________________ 99/00 Frontera B 3.2 V6

You'd think that wouldn't you?
But with the fuse removed it starts and stops with no problems. Anyway it's an old fashioned diesel, why would it have electronic ignition? |

C -4 just does the ignition on petrols so if its going bang and its diesel then its got a short so leave it out .
The rear demist is C -17 - 25 amp and the ABS might be a number of things but its fuse F - 9 20 amp .
The ABS is very voltage sensitive so is it charging ok ? _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

Seems to be charging OK if the voltmeter is to be believed.
Both the rear demist and the ABS fuses are fine - swapped them out anyway and still no joy. Can't find a fuse for the mirror demister at all, I assume
Is there any point at which the electric window and both demister circuits come together that would explain the apparent simultaneous failure of all of them?
If I had a wiring diagram I'd probably discover that they all get feeds from the same place but the owners manual never has anything useful like that in it does it?
Oh and why the [expletive deleted] is there a fuse in ELEC IG if it doesn't do anything? Madness! |

As far as I know on the '96 the windows just have the circuit breaker after the main fuse so if its popping all the time then its voltmeter time .
There is the Isuzu workshop manual on line in the club - have you read that ?
http://www.jeepolog.com/UserFiles/downloads/trooper_manual.pdf big file though .
If thats links working can you let us know _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

One of the mysterious things about this fault is that the power window breaker doesn't seem to trip. The windows just don't work.
The .pdf is downloading at the moment. It is rather large, isn't it? |

Good job I didnt link the big one then ! You really need to meter the breaker output then as it may be a duff breaker - swop it with the one by it to test.
Also if you have the master window control button that can go wrong as well. _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

Where's this spare breaker then? Only got one that I can see (this is a '96 3.1D remember) and the fusebox is different from the 3.0 in the pdf. |

Yes , the book shows the 3.0, 3.1 and the petrols .
It says what version you are looking at at the top of the page , it covers some of the wiring to 96 but as as the Bighorn was not sold here it may not be exactly what you have - so if you only got one breaker then stick a meter on and see what you got volt wise . _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

Just an update on what I've gleaned so far from the Pdf.
There is a line from the ignition switch to the power window reray (sic) that passes through the mysterious ELEC IG (C4) fuse.
C4 also crops up in the ABS wiring diagram and the rear demister diagram and will probably found on the diagrams for the other non-functional bits.
Of course I'm not sure how this helps me yet but it's worth knowing that such an apparently irrelevant fuse crops up in so many systems. |

Right, problem solved then, with the help of that workshop manual, thanks very much everybody.
It was a duff power-window relay - which is not immediately obvious on the 3.1 as it's actually behind the fusebox so that you have to get your head into the footwell to see it.
I'm hypothesising that the relay's internals had burnt out and there was consequently a fairly big short that blew the 10A C4 fuse. I removed the relay, put in a weaker fuse in the C4 slot and the ABS and rear demister worked fine. Replacing the duff relay with a good one made the windows work fine too.
Who knows it might make 250,000 miles yet.
Thanks again for the assistance and suggestions. |

I think this fuse "ELEC IG" fuse is for for all auxiliary electrics when ignition is in the on position
Seems to be true for my 95 Petrol Manual Monty
