I used to put the old engine oil from my pug 405 diesel straight into the fuel tank after an oil change. This was over 40k-odd miles with 6k oil changes. Never had any probs.
I haven't done this with my 3.0 though as I don't want to give the injectors any excuse to misbehave _________________ 2001 3.0 DT LWB Duty - Dragon Green Metallic. |

I wouldn't bother, can get too much *beep* in engine oil. You would also need to pay fuel duty to keep it legal. _________________ 1996 N Isuzu Trooper Duty LWB 3.1TD

You must pay fuel duty, which I think is 54p per litre atm. Only Veg based fuels are covered on the 2,500 litre limit, engine oil is classed like Red Diesel. _________________ 1996 N Isuzu Trooper Duty LWB 3.1TD

The emissions is a good question as its burning oil, I bet it stinks and smokes like a hippy. _________________ |

if it burns cleanly i think you could plead ignorant with hmrc, but if billowing smoke and giving off that sickly burnt oil smell your looking for trouble |

I suppose the oil contains the 'oil', blue smoke, carbon, not sure what that 'burns' like and 'unburned hydrocarbons' could be fuel(?).
There could also be 'solids' like metalic particles. There could also be water and suphur dioxide.
There is also all the addatives that the oil manufacturers put in the oil.
What about the fully synthetic oils? What is in them?
I'm being a bit negative, arn't I? |

It's Carcinogenic Mark
5 litres or so of old engine oil won't do any harm in 50 litres of diesel, but if you start reducing the amount of diesel then you really need to thin the mix with a lighter oil like kerosene, paraffin, Avtur, etc to keep it at the right viscosity. Depends if you can get this cheap / free as well though.
I wouldn't worry about the paying tax on it - unless you feel that motorist's are under-taxed at present , anyway, who's gonna know? old oil doesn't smoke any more than normal.
All in all, probably not worth the hassle to do this as a regular fuel, only as a way of getting rid of old engine oil. _________________ 2001 3.0 DT LWB Duty - Dragon Green Metallic. |
