Well....now that I'm over my initial Trooper troubles (£900 clutch, dodgy door pillars, injector recalls) I thought I'd chuck the thing at our local Thetford Forest. So we bought an OS Landranger map, chucked the kids in the back with a picnic and set off on an 80 mile round trip of the dense woodland and green lanes.
Had an absolutely brilliant time and took a couple of pics, one of where I bottomed out at 6pm on Sunday night....had to wander around a bit and find some old logs to shove under the wheels, without those we'd still be there I think.
On the second day we saw a group of 15 deer and stopped for a while to watch.

Gonna get some more Landranger maps from the library on the rest of Norfolk/Suffolk this week and plan more outings....once I've poked the mud out from underneath.

And the great thing....no ENGINE CHECK light for the whole weekend Smile

Landranger maps include more tourist info. Including rights of way. There is a better series of maps called 'Explorer Map'. They are printed in a larger scale, 1:25000 or 2-1/2 inches to the mile, than standard O.S. maps, 1:50000 or 1-1/4 inch to the mile.
If you haven't done a lot of 'map reading' it is worth spending some time studying the map to familiarise yourself on how they work. Very Happy

You can get the updated ones online through the club can't you? I'm sure I've seen them while looking for greenlanes near us.

Only thing with OS maps is they are a bit behind with current info and you might find the lanes is not a byway any more or have winter traffic  restrictions on it  , in surrey and hants you can use the on line interactive council map to see whats open and drivable , plus its a free service .
Also you can report any blocked lanes , did one just outside Alton last week which had not been driven in ages as its a bit tame but where it came out the house owner had claimed it as Lawn  Shocked  now I am not the type to say ' its a lane I'm just gonna drive over  it ' so did a 360  but I did log it with the byways man who said he would look at it and see if the guy had a claim in so maybe it will be opened up .

Would think they have them up North too  ?

Looks good

Where abouts in Thetford are these as we go there quite a lot with the caravan and could always manage a lane or two Smile

I'd go for that too if I could. Pretty please!  I'm on the Beds/Cambs border. Just off the A603, 5 miles from Arrington. Very Happy
