Does anybody have a clue what is the purpose of this plastic cover that is located on either side of the back side trims (underneath the rear bumper)?

Because I'm very nosy I just went out and ripped the N/S one off my old truck, from what I can see its just an access cover, theres some wiring behind it.

inside that pocket is the wiring for your brake lights and indicators, you can cut it off, but get the wires out of there first

i've filled them up with expander foam because they had a habit of leaking in mud
