Hi all im new to the forum and am in need of a little advice,

i have a 3.1 bighorn and love it but the fuel is getting a little expensive so im looking at running bio ( b100) i have been told that bio will damage the rubber pipes on the fuel system and that its no good for the pump. im a little worried as to weather to run on it or not. i dont want to kill my bighorn!

are any of you running bio and if so whats your thoughts ?

Loads of us have run it and some still are without a problem (apart from having to change the fuel filter after the first few hundred miles)
I run Bio and or new Veg oil for about 4 years without any problems at all, all I can say is get a good supplier as there are some cowboys out there.

If thats the one on Ashworth rd then they are ok, all I found was the cetane level was a bit low so I ran 25% normal diesel with it.
But I run a petrol now and have not been there for over a year.

yes thats the place. i will go over and have a look and see what its like, if the cetane level is a bit low i will do as you did and run diesel with it.
how do you go in in winter with it or would it be best to go on full diesel ?

thanks for the info  thumbright

I used to stick a bit of petrol in, the isuzu book states up to 20% petrol but thats for maybe siberia  Laughing
I was happy with about 5% if that.
I would ask them, maybe they put the winter aditive in  Idea

No need to run a 3.1 on Bio, just use Veg Oil, either SVO (new veg oil) or WVO (waste veg oil) thats been used.
Macro sell SVO called KTC in 20 ltr containers for about 76p ltr.  Just pour it into your tank and away you go instant fuel saving.
I've used WVO in my 3.1 for 6 mths now, done about 5,000 miles in it.
Only Mods I have is a clear inline pre filter (£2), FPHE (£20) to heat the fuel, and I've replaced the rubbish fuel filter with a fuel filter off a Rover 620 Diesel (£7).
I get my WVO for between 20-45p per ltr.
More info on http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/index.php if you need it.

mine will run quite happily on 65/35 diesel /veg, have run it at 40% veg but seemed a bit grumpy on it, only use new veg oil and mix it in a drum with diesel before putting it in the tank,
found it runs smoother with no loss of power

I would never run on waste oil, there is to much crud in there chemical wise and that will eat seals.

Let it settle for weeks, only filter the good top oil down to a minimum 1 micron and all is ok.

The savings I have made in 6 mths is more than I paid for the car, so atm the car has cost me nothing.

IMHO Bio in a 3.1TD is a waste of money, just put in SVO if you cant get WVO.
I've used WVO for 6 mth in mine now, last 4 mth I've had a Heat Exchanger fitted.  I ony put it in cos I got it cheap off eebuygum (£15).
My Heat Exchanger heats the fuel up to 60c+ in about 10 mins.
A mate uses WVO in his 3.1TD and has never had a Heat Exchanger, even used it during the last winter over xmas without even using petrol.
If you start using SVO/WVO keep spare fuel filters and tools to change it in the car just incase it blocks up while you're driving.
This will do as a Temp Fuel Filter http://cgi.eebuygum.co.uk/ws/eebuygum.dll?ViewItem&item=320518330474
I use 1 of them as a pre-filter, then heat exchanger then main fuel filter.
