Here is a simple flow chart and MAM = GVW on older cars.
SOURCE
So if your Trooper is GVW 2600KG then you can tow a 900KG trailer/caravan _________________ |

I thought there was also a limit of 750Kg regardless of the towing vehicle weight as well. _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition

The 750Kg thing is the maximum weight a trailer can be without brakes. |

OUCH! This post just scared the cr** out of me when I read it! I used to tow a HUGE twin axle tourer with my LWB Shogun and never realized the rules had changed.
Just found this on the Government website, though, so I guess it means I'm okay...
Quote: |
Car licences held before 1 January 1997
All drivers who passed a car test before 1 January 1997 retain their existing entitlement to tow trailers until their licence expires. This means they are generally entitled to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8.25 tonnes MAM. |
I might be towing again shortly with Bess, so I'm glad I checked after reading here, though!

Trailers can exceed 750kg and not require B+E... its all down to weight ratio between car & trailer. _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

The flow chart is right and simple to follow, its hard to believe that some folk still think newer drivers are limited to 750kg _________________ |

right dont get this as the mam of the trooper is something like 6100kg max towing weight is 3500kg
so with that in mind you wouldnt be able to tow anything or am i looking at this in the wrong way ? and can a new driver drive a trooper or is that not its mam
i know you can have a 4250kg mam max over vehicle and trailer _________________ karl
