EGR? just guessing, can i do DTC test like we can on the trooper?

Had a friend that ran a Mondeo on WVO and it killed it. It seems that the engine in the Mondeo is not very good with anything but diesel.

Depends on the year but should be an OBD port there , I think its under the ashtray in fords .

Sounds like an injector , try cracking each pipe off at idle and see if the engine note changes .

Injectors normally.  Budget on £80 each - cheaoer than troopers ones!

They need coding as well.  There are firms that recondition them too - try a delphi injector refurb specialist.

The mondeo TDCI injection system is fragile, if your pal wants to lose hours of an evening there are loads of horror stories on mondeo forums. .  I have one but mine has been okay as I use cleaner in every tank and I'm on 118k at present.

Try some BG244 before doing anything, it's worth the small investment if it unclogs the bad injector(s), but if a leak-off test shows a failed injector there's no alternative to refurb / replace I'm afraid.

great stuff, i  will get him to try the injector cleaner.

Did try tracking them off while on tick over but the car stalled instantly. up the revs and did it, got showered in diesel   Shocked  Laughing

the note changed but was the same on all 4.

Found a split in the pipe from the egr valve to, so going to replace that.

Thanks again folks.

Yeah, go careful as the diesel is at a huge pressure from the pump onto the rail  Shocked

You didn't say what diesel your mate has but assuming TDCI or TDDI, the EGR is probably gummed up anyway along with the inlet manifold.  It's a 2 hour job to take it off and degunk it with whatever scraper tools you can get into all the nooks and crannies and plenty of white spirit or whatever solvent you have most of.

I ended up blanking off my EGR with a plate off fleabay to stop further gunk but this is only suitable if he has a vacuum operated EGR; if it's the electrical one (you'll see wires going to it on later TDCI's) then you can fit a blank with a small hole in the centre to reduce gunk whilst keeping the ECU happy.  Plenty of info on 'talkford' forums. Smile

Quite true.

Can also cut like a precision knife if the spray is fine enough  Shocked
