I have a 1990 SWB 2.8td just to use for offroading with 235.75.15 tryes and i want to fit some ANACONDA tyres but these or 235.85.16.
So will the 16" rims off the newer troopers fit? and should the tryes fit ok or will the wheel arches need a trim?

You can get up to 31 inch tyres under a standard trooper so I am reliably informed, a 235/80/16 1s 30.8" diameter so an 85 will be maybe just over 31" so you may need to trim a touch or it may be all right but even a small lift will sort it out. ( the tyre size calculator I have only goes up to 80 profiles) http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html
I have older Shogun/Pajero alloys on mine, I think they all seem to use the same setup. _________________ Phil

Phil is right, you can get 31 inch tyres under the arch, with a 1.5 inch lift. 32's will rub. Why do you want 16 inch rims ? More steel, less rubber, therefore less flex, less grip for the same diameter tyre. 31-10.50 R 15 is the tyre to go for if it's a road going car, as it offers the flex, but also the extra width for on road stability. 235/85 R 16 is a very tall narrow tyre, and you will notice it, especially on wet tarmac. Would be OK if the car is meant for purely off road though.
I am working on the article about suspension lifting, but it's a complex subject, and it's taking a lot longer than I thought it would. Please be patient, It'll be worth the wait.
All the best

I have 31/10.5/R15's BFG Long Trails on my Chevy, its a 2wd but I needed big tyres to fill the arches and take the load and it had a nice set of aftermarket rims on it (American Racing Outlaw II's). They're nice wideish rubber and bloody big old tyres. I hate the current trend for mega big wheels and skinny rubber on classics, it makes them look like cartoon cars IMO. Mr Twister is right, lower profile means less room to air down for better grip. _________________ Phil

It is just to use only for offroading with.

And tows it just fine.

I have fitted 265/75/16 ATs to my MKII SWB with no trouble at all.
I have yet to take it off road but do not expect any rubbing.

Hi there, what's happened to the 4WD? Do you have manual hubs that have given up, or is it those poxy auto hubs?. I had 31x10.5x15 on my Trooper with some sort of pattern alloys, they did stick out further on those rims than the standard ones so have butchers in a scrap yard for some manky looking alloys. They should not be too dear if manky looking and as they will be covered in mud most of the time then who cares. Bluebridge Breakers are up your way I think. Best of luck. _________________ Cheers
