Hey guys - long time no speak. Which means all your advice on various of our problems has been successful - THANKS !
Anyway onto a new one. We have been running our 3.1TD Trooper/Monty on bio-diesel now for almost a year and apart from one fuel filter change seems to work like a dream.
However with the recent spike in fuel prices we are looking for more savings. LPG is freely available here in Poland so have been thinking about if we could mix LPG with diesel to save a few more pennies. I've seen somewhere that there are such conversions so want to ask you guys ......
Has anyone had a conversion done to include a diesel engine running on LPG too. Links I've seen suggest that mixing them before injection is possible. But there are some downsides to burning LPG in a diesel engine (combustion/compression ratios etc)
So any experience, advice, dos and don'ts, forget it......etc comments to get the ball rolling would be great.

Yeah, it's a big thing across the water in America.
Basically a small amount of LPG is added to the intake charge to act as a chemical sparkplug inside the chamber. So the diesel ignites the gas which in turn burns all the diesel, it reduces the smoke and particulate part of your exhaust and keeps your oil cleaner and all sorts of good things happen. The down side is if you run out of diesel and try to run on, on gas alone you will destroy the engine in short order. _________________ Let the big dawg hunt. |

I came across an H.G.V. in a boat yard and spotted an L.P.G tank on it , He reckoned it was fantastic it increased his BHP and gave him better fuel consumption, The whole fleet was the same. It works on 30% injection into the engine, Like full L.P.G you start on fuel and link in the gas when hot automatically |

Its no good bazza trying it ,Ireland seems to be the only place L.P.G is more expensive than fuel. There was a fillup in south Donegal on the way to Sligo , if it still there it is the only one in Ireland |

You'll need 2 regulators, one to cut the pressure out of the bottle and the other hooked to your boost pressure.
and a tank, some hose and a few fittings, it's relatively easy to do.
I just been too damn lazy to get at it.

It works different to petrol engines.
In a diesel conversion, the lpg is used to aid combustion of diesel not replace it. Kinda like a chemical spark-plug.
It is expected to make a 30% difference to fuel comsumption, with the majority of the gains coming from a more complete burn of the diesel in the chamber. _________________ Let the big dawg hunt. |
