|
|
Hi all,
Trying to attempt this on an Bighorn Auto with A/C.
Noticed the bottom cover holding the bottom water pump bolts is behind the bottom belt pulley.
Reading previous posts it seems that the pulley should come off by undoing the four bolts leaving the centre bolt in place and a few clouts. Looking at the centre bolt head it doesn't look like it would "Pull through the pulley" if that makes sense, so I assume the bolt needs to be removed. Being on auto it means the engine isn't locked and the pulley would turn if I tried to get the bolt out.
Wonder if anyone had any tips or tricks to get the bottom pulley off?
Cheers |

Just undo the four little bolts (12mm socket). Then get your longest jimmy bar and stuff the end in the outer groove levering against the head of the old of water pump, you can then whack the pulley with a hammer and it will pop off. Ignore the centre bolt.
Better instructions here, just ignore references to timing belt change, though I would be tempted to do that as well.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately on mine pulley it is a different arrangement.
Having had a closer look the Pulley is bolted on with big thick washer.
As its an Auto had to lock the flywheel to get the bolt out.
Then is was a sod to get the pulley out, the four bolts didn't actually screw into anything, so I used longer bolts to "push the pulley off" and it was tight to get off to the very end!
Not sure if having A/C has anything to with it. |

Where are you mate? Sounds as if you might have a gear driven engine, or at least something very strange to the rest of us. _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition

I don't think gear driven exists does it? Just belt and some chain. _________________

No no no Dylan ... before Grandad has a tantrum ... there never ever was a chain driven 4JB1 or 4JG2. They were on the whole belt driven in vehicles, with some gear driven ones. Most gear driven one's ended up in dusty countries like Indonesia, and others used with pumps or marine purposes.
I think I rescued that one lol. _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition

Oh yeah ... big ass washer. How bizzare, though I do recollect someone else having the same issue. One to remember for future reference.
Cheers for the pictures buddy. Will help others in the future. _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition

My poly crankshaft is equal to this!
I did not understand perfectly : how do to unscrew ! (Some difficulty in translating)
I have to take the four small screws and large, that is in the middle ?
I am with a doubt: At a special procedure to loosen the four screws of poly crankshaft ?
And to remove the poly crankshaft, you must exit the large bolt, screw the middle ?
There is some technical procedure, I can facilitate their removal ?
It takes some special tools to hold and remove the crankshaft poly ?
Thank you . |

Just a quick question. ....is the thread standard ie turn left to undo or is this a left hand thread? |

Standard right hand thread.....best way is to find a perfect fitting socket and using a long bar put the bar against the chassis rail and flick the starter..don't let the engine start just flick the key and it'll come loose a treat just changed my Cambelt and this is the way I removed the pulley.
Re-tighten to 150 lbs FT
