This is before I made the mods to the a-frame which was my limiting factor, running 37" tyres (3ft 1") tall and you can get another one under the back bumper, some people have questioned when I have said you can have the back bumper over your head (6ft) and the wheels still on the floor but have proved it many times. Very Happy

I suppose the reason my springs are so good at what they do is the fact that they are dual / progressive rate. With the top 3 coils closed they're good for heavy load carrying, but off road they have that extra travel when needed. They also compress just nicely too when articulating.

I've always been happy with the way mine behaves, so I've never really had the need to look at any other set-up tbh.

If the LR spring seat change is straight forward, then that would be the logical way to go, purely because of the huge spring choice it opens up Cool .

It seems a very good option, literally just bolt the spring seats to the existing ones. Just want to make sure I get the right springs, hence the questions, does anyone know the rate of a standard trooper spring?

I've just tried looking for that info, and tbqh I can't seem to find it  Embarassed . I do know the LWB rate will be different to the SWB, as I have heard mentioned that fitting LWB springs to a SWB gives about 1" lift.

However, I did discover this on Planetisuzoo which is interesting....

http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=59946

And, I've just noticed about 1/3 of the way down page 2 are spring rates listed for stock Trooper and various OME springs ( post by Proptied )

Spring Rate, Length, Bar Diameter

Trooper Stock Rear: 180lbs
OME 912: Couldn't find.
OME 919: 200-280lbs, 17", 15mm
OME 929: 240-300lbs, 16.5", 16mm

Grand Cherokee (ZJ) V8 Front: 140lbs, 18.4", 15mm
OME 934: 160lbs, 19.6", 14mm

I don't know if our stock rates would be the same, coz our American cousins do tend to prefer softer suspension set-ups as stock.

OME actually state on their website that their springs are progressive rate.

The hawk-eyed amongst you will notice that Mk IV's upto & post 2001 show different specs for OE spring rates 160/180
and recomend different +100kg springs  2919/2929.

I'm running OME 919's  OME shocks all round, very balanced ride IMHO but, with coil spacers you effectively raise the hitch point for the shock and therfore lose shock down travel the same as the spacer width. Can'y find an OME shock to match so the existing one's will shortly have the top eye lifted to gain back the dead space and give more twist at the rear.

However..........still won;t be like Twisty's or Gribbles's........but enough  Wink

Hmm , Robbo  if your good and do as yer told then yes .  Smile but oi suspects you be having a go as well  Laughing

Yes the wheels n tyres went on ok  Gary and done the diff ok ,also done the disk brake back axle swap too .

Only did the TV 4x4 driveround on em so far but they seem ok and get  traction in the sand without excavating the loose away like the simex seem too . The shorter rope on the winch got rid of the bunching issue too so the wide drum is being made now .

I would like to arrange this  'clash of the tight uns ' if possible when Thames Valley 4x4 have a event on as they are an all marques club and a good bunch of lads .

I rekon them 295's would be a bit stiff off road Pete but try em and see ? There's a pair of mediums on eebuygum near you for 25 quid .

Off to pick them springs up now, the rate on them is only 149lbs so I reckon they might be a bit soft but for £25 it's worth a go!

Big thanks to gribble, the springs are brand new and are just over 2" bigger then standard hd springs. I've ordered some seats spring seats so I'll post more pics when I get them fitted, fingers crossed the rate on them will be ok.
