Hi all.
Fairly new on here so be gentle!
Ive got a S plate crewcab TFS 2.8.
Regardless of wether the it has been running all day or not the temperature guage never really moves much above cold and the heater never goets hot.
Also as you drive along the faster you got the temp guage goes down, also the faster you have the fan on the colder the blown air gets!
I think that the previous owner used to run the engine on more or less neat antifreeze by the looks of things but surly this would still get hot at some point. I drive it 20 miles to work every day and its still not reading or blowing hot by the time i get there.
Could it be as simple as a dodgy thermostat?
All help appreciated chaps, i recon its going to be a cold winter this year!

I would change the thermostat (Quinten Hazel QTH411K 85 degree one from Halfords) and make sure you have the correct 50/50 mixture of blue coolant. Works on my 2.8 a treat. These engines never get hot (mine never rises above the 1/3 mark even when towing a 16' fully loaded caravan up and down hils in a 2 ton truck - total weight about 3 1/2 tons) unless you have an issue somewhere like blacked radiator or such like.
Another possibility is the viscous fan is jammed on all the time never letting the engine get to temperature.
Another problem could be the heater matrix is blocked. _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition

Got the same problem on my 3.1td Trooper LS. It worked fine, the temp gauge was always reading a bit under 1/2, the heater was blowing hot after about 10 mins of driving in the winter, I was happy
Now, since 3 weeks ago the temp gauge is reading just about 0, the heater blows some warm(ish) air and I have to fix this problem as I don't really think it's a gauge/sender problem because the fuel consumption got up and that means that the engine is not up to the working temperature.
The viscous fan I think it's preatty stuck on but it doesn't botter me for now, it's like that since 2 years ago.
The most sure thing is the thermostat or what do you guys think of this? |

Pretty much the same engine .. put a new thermostat in as described above (Quinten Hazel QTH411K) though you will find them cheaper on eBlag _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition

... also make sure the coolant is topped up with the right mix of anti-freeze. _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition
