I finally got around to starting my 3.1 project, it's a standard 1992 3.1 Bighorn. My intention is to strip it down to the chassis and clean it all up and mod it as I rebuild it. I'm not a mechanic and know very little about the subject so will be learning as I go along. I've a long list of mods I want to do, so let the fun begin.

Here's a couple of pics of it as standard(i was a little late in remembering to take them)

I decided to start at the back and work my way to the engine, so the first thing i did was to put it onto axle stands and remove the wheels. Next I removed the rear brakes, axle and all the rear suspension parts. I popped the pistons out of all the calipers while they were on the car. I just undid the bottom bolt on all four and lifted the calipers up so the piston was free then just pumped the brakes until they all popped out(this was the simplest way I could think of to do it).

To remove the rear axle I first disconnected the brake lines and the breather pipe from the axle then jacked it up and put it on axle stands. I next removed the prop shaft, trailing arms, shocks, etc. the only difficult part of this was undoing nuts that have been on for 21 years. The axle was now free from the truck with just the springs still in place, to remove these I just put the jack back under the diff, took the weight on the jack, removed the axle stands and lowered and out they popped.

The next job is to get the fuel tank out then I can start to clean up the rear chassis.
