Was at my local auto electrical man .
He gave me all the wire (heavy stuff for fans) .
But he told me that most cars will use 50 amp relays for fans ..
Said if I used standard relays they would just blow .....
Just a thought _________________

Fuses are there to protect cables in event of overload. If your running 50A is your wiring up to it. Could end up melting cabling before fuse goes. I run 40A relays with 30A fuses with a twin speed 16" kenlowe and a 12" cheapy for extra cooling on the high speed circuit. I use the twin switch from X-Eng in the bottom hose. Never had any issues towing or otherwise. Fans are very rarely on. _________________ On victory, you deserve beer, on defeat, you need it. |

It seems that the Mondeo fans have a higher startup current than the Kenlowes.....hence possibly my prob with 30A fuses...provided the proper gauge wiring is used......which I'm sure is the case with Hunter and myself ...then the initial current is dependant on the agression of the fan on startup, once running the current draw may be relatively low.......eg 35A startup 15A running.......So running 50A gear is not a bad idea,if a short circuit occurs then the fuse will do its job........However your point about correct spec power AND earth wiring for the fan motors post relay is totally valid and should be noted and considered by any carrying out this mod |

Thats what local auto electrical man told me . Start up on ford fans was heavy draw .
He supplied all wire , connections and fuses .
Went to breakers got 2 relays , showed them to auto man . He said they were just the job .
He has 50 amp relays @£10 each . Not like he was trying to sell something I didn't need .
Going by his advice there is no fuse to the fan . Only fused on the switched side . _________________

Update....When checking temp at stat with T2,lower range switch 83/78 higher range 88/87 ......this is not doing me any favours to progressively control the temp |

Any update on this Ted ?
Reason I ask is that I want to get an X-eng sender, but I only want the Low temp circuit to run off it, with a manual switch for the high temp.
Just wondering if you've sussed what sender range works best for the LT. _________________
