How do i flush heater matrix as i am a complete novice

hi guys,been a while since i been on but lost job AND had a new addition to the family (little boy)
got a l reg lwb bighorn,3.1 auto and since i had it the heater has never blew hot air,temp gauge goes up half way but just doesnt blow hot from heater,
basically i need a idiots guide to flushing the heater matrix as i have as much knowledge aboyt this as does my new born son,and as winter coming i dont want him freezing when we goout in bighorn.

many thanks and sorry i sound such a simpleton but i want flush it right and cant think of a better place than here to get the right advice.

May be one of the linkages has come off from behind the control panel. Aparently its not unusual for this to hapen on these vehicles.
