|
|
Getting near to the end of a MK1 bobtail Trooper build and have come up with a question! I'm putting a 3.1 into what was a 2.8 car and there is quite a difference in the brake servo set up. The 2.8 had a lightweight plastic tank connected to the vacuum pipe (it sat under the front wing), naturally I did the sensible thing and threw it away with all the other bits I should have kept and now wonder if the 2.8 servo that I'm keeping will need this part in-line.
The 3.1 donor doesn't have the tank but is a different vacuum pump & servo. The 2.8s in Frontera's have the 3.1 servo and have a different type but similar plastic tank..GRRRRRRRR
As the tank is pretty flimsy it can't hold that much vacuum so wouldn't be much of a resevoir...or would it? |

this is a reversal of the pint into a quart pot question, think about it that way and you have the answer |

I'm thinking of the negative pressure on the thin plastic walls rather than volume of the tank. |

It a small pipe on the top opposite the pipe that comes from the servo. only small like those vacuum pipes that run along the top of the engine. _________________

Yes the pumps are the same style but the servo's are quite different. What is the purpose of this tank on 2.8s?
SIWEB:- If it sucks when the engine is running it would be a fair guess that a pipe should be fitted. |

all diesels have a vac reservoir the purpose is that it provides a constant vacuum under normal braking
as can be tested if you pump the pedal fast enough you should be able exhaust the vac and bring the light on the dash on
if there were no reservoir this would happen under normal braking
siweb the small pipe you refer to goes over to the egr system i think or to the turbo |
