pretty sure you can get some tough radiator paints that spray on too - both available in red.

LOL - There's the can of worms opened!  Laughing

There are quite a few 'tough' paints on the market. All much of a muchness IMHO. -Hammerite isn't the legend it was years ago due to changes in its formula; largely brought about by political pressure. Combi-Colour is another alternative. - But, as with all these things, there are no real miracles to be found in a tin. Good prep and proper priming are a must.

Alternatively - turn the parts over to a professional powder coater.

Problem with powder coating is if it gets damaged it can de-laminate. This allows water to get underneath it and the water to sit there and rot the metal out without you realising.

True...  I suppose paint will at least blast off the first time you pressure-wash it.

That is why it is recommended to waxoyl it once a year. The bash plates are going to get thumped and whatever you put on them will come off. That is why they are bash plates. If they aren't getting a pounding you are doing something wrong Wink

Personally I would wire brush the rust off, and a really thick coat of hammerite on the chassis and under body. I wouldn't even bother with the bash plates. Then once a year give it a wash and touch it up.

I do that every few years... Wash, wire brush, hammerite...  Every year it gets a wash down and re-waxoyled.  It's due for a re-coat this year; not long-since pressure washed it for the MOT - getting a few things out of the way before I repaint...

Unimpressed by how the last lot of hammerite held up; and it's clear water was creeping under it. I'd have been better off with that tarry-shutz stuff quite frankly. - I might just go for combi-color this time.
