My 3.1 Bighorn has started to do a disappearing trick with the coolant, it's loosing about a litre over 100 miles.
All the hoses are in good condition, as is the thermostat, radiator, water pump etc. Temperature gauge sits bang in the middle with plenty of heat, that is, until the water level drops. It starts in a milli second, with no water in the oil or oil in the water. I've had the system pressure tested to 1.5 bar, with no leaks or pressure loss.
What do you think is going on?

I expect its going out the exhaust so you can't see it and its going to be a heat related thing which is very hard to test for .
Can you get the pressure test done when the cars hot ? might show something .
The cause ? probably head gasket so not a difficult fix. _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

Thanks Gribble.
It was at normal temp. when the test was done and nothing showed up.
I'm going to offer it up for sale soon, so for peace of mind, I suppose I'd better have the head gasket replaced. |

At that price, it's worth a try. |

That's what my Indi thinks, but he hasn't got a tester.
I can get one on eebuygum, for £50 or so.
Do you know if they're any good?
It's a fantastic vehicle: I want to sell it but I can't, until this is sorted. |
