I presume they are steel wheels... if so why not use a wire brush on an angle grinder then give them a spray up ensuring its dry when you put the primer and coats of paint on. _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

Steel or chrome wheels you can polish the majority of the rust out. You can use various method. Metal wool and a polish compound works great.
If you want, you can scuff up the wheels and then paint them.
If they are aluminum and have lost the clear coat, well, the only way to restore them is to well, restore them. Which is expensive. _________________ Shorts

I had my alloys refurbished by Metal Magic in Barnsley and they look better than new they charge £33 a wheel & that includes removal/ refiting of tyres & balancing |

I agree with grandad, the only surefire way is to get them blasted, I'd then consider having them powder coated at the same time. I wirebrushed , rust neutralised etc my steel spare and then painted it with hellfrauds wheel paint and the rust is coming through after a year. _________________ Phil

If you have a compressor, then you could buy a hand held sand blaster. But like a paint sprayer but with a bigger nozzle.
I have got one and find it priceless. Probably gets used in the workshop every day. The economy ones are quite cheep too, and mine works ok.
Does need a good quality dust mask though. |

I did my spare steel wheel last year.
Just a bit of wet n dry and a couple of coats of spray paint.
I just happen to have a can of silver in the cuboard from the time I sprayed a front light lense of an old motor I use to own to get it through the MOT.
The wheel came up fine and it's lasted.
