I have a 2006 RA Rodeo 4wd with manual transmission. My reverse lights were not working when I bought the vehicle so I had an auto-elec have a look and he diagnosed a dodgy reverse light switch, so I purchased a replacement which turned up today. When I removed the old switch I noticed it was loose, but removed it anyway and screwed in the new one, however with it screwed in tightly I can't change gears? Should there be a washer or similar? Does it not screw in tightly? Is something not put back together correctly on the gearbox?

I removed the new switch and shone a light into the screw hole to see a rod which slides back and forth as I select gears. In the Neutral position theres a cutaway or recessed area in the rod? Is this the neutral switch?

I read in a blog that there are several switches on the gearbox?? Ive reviewed my manual but that doesn't have gearbox specifications?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Wayne

There should be a copper washer if I am not mistaken. On earlier trucks a Vauxhall/Holden Copper sump plug washer from Halfords was the one to use. I dunno if they still stock them though.

Just looked

http://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-parts/engine-parts/sump-plug-sump-pan/halfords-hfx225-sump-washer-for-vauxhall-opel

EDIT:

Obviously this doesn't help you in Western Australia  Embarassed

But any motor factors there should have something similar.

Rhanagar,

Ok looks simple enough just add a washer, so the replacement part didn't come with a washer but you say the original switch should have had one. Do you think maybe 2-3mm thick?

Do you know if the gearbox would have a neutral switch or a first gear switch at all?
