Just some info for those needing to change the steering box.

Finally got my steering box refurbished. It was done by Steering Specialists Limited (link at bottom). It cost £195 all in including collection and delivery. It's about a 3 day turnaround service. Mine only needed seal kit so if internal components needed then I assume the cost would go up accordingly. Box comes back repainted and looking smart. Steering is now as sharp as you will get on a Trooper. You don't realise how sloppy your old one is until the backlash has been reset.

As expected the pitman arm could not be removed in situ which makes it impossible to remove as the manual states, through the inner wing. It is possible to remove it upwards but it is tight and aircon pump has to be pulled to one side. In the end I cut a little metal away from the inner wing which made it possible to remove with pitman arm intact albeit a little tight.

Not a fun job, but satisfying.

Only just seen your post. I did not get a notification.

Have you done the job?

If you have not done the job yet let me know. I have found the notes I made and some pics of the cut-out I made in the inner wing. I used plenty of Dexron 3 and flushed the system.
