I went to look at a Mk1 yesturday the only foreseeable problem was its suspension being very soft. Are replacement shock/springs easily to get hold of and how much are they.
Who are the best people for getting parts from.
Thanks in advance

The front is torsion bar suspension so no need to change anything there other than shocks. The rear is leaf springs, I got a complete spring/shckle/bush kit from www.milneroffroad.com for £48.95 per side, fitting was pretty easy, took an afternoon, only snag was having to grind down one of the spring locating dowels as it was a touch oversize. Bushes are poly as well so last ages. Shocks were also sourced from Milners but you can use other brnads like the Procomp explorers. Rear end of mine lifted by about four inches my springs were so knackered so it was well worth it, I did have to re-align the headlights though as they were hitting the deck too close to the front, either that or crank the torsion bars up a bit but you then need to have camber etc checked afterwards.

can you do a axel over conversion for a lift or do you have to get longer shackles?

The easiest way would be longer shackles but obviously a 2" longer shackle only gets you a 1" lift as it only acts on one end of the spring so it pivots at the far end. I think an spring over axle conversion is possible but requires some fabrication.

I've just lifted mine, 3inch on back and about 2.5inch on front, didn't replace shocks my who done it siad they've got alot of play in them still, he made the shackles for me, and fitted them and wound the front up all for £0, and the shackles are stronger than those one's on offer from Calmini Wink

Thanks for your replies. 2 days of ownership and following a new set of tyres at the dealers expense it would appear all the roll was the tyres. So I will have to find something else to spend the money I had allocated, as a PAS pipe has sprung a leak I dont think it will take much time to spend the money though. Laughing
