HI,

Yes my dear old trooper has thrown me yet another weird electrical fault! Thing is it is going in for MOT on Tuesday so that maybe sealing its fate even quicker than I thought! Nah it is a good veichle really and now clocking 231,000 miles.
Intermittent but getting more and happening for longer! Start the vehicle and the timing belt, radiator, fuel, oil and battery light all stay on, sometimes not the fuel and yes it had plenty of diesel at this time! The voltmeter stays at about 10 and everything obviously slows up like wipers and windows etc. All of a sudden all the lights go out and voltmeter goes back to normal about 14 and everything fine! Any ideas? Thanks Smile

Easy one to check all the earths in the engine bay. Recently had a similar sounding fault that was cured by removing all earth connections & cleaning them. But it does sound like an alternator to me Crying or Very sad

Morex4 hasmentioned that he can get alternators rebuilt for £65, but it does mean sending it away so the car will be off the road for a while.

Yup, you may very well have an alternator problem and usually more than one light on in the dash can mean you have an issue with the electrical system. At the very least it will probably be a bad voltage regulator, if not the whole alternator. Getting the alternator rebuilt may not be a bad idea and I've also seen them on eebuygum UK before. Keep us up to date on what happens. Good day.

I would check the earths first because of so many lights etc showing, and it's cheap to fix Very Happy

There are high output alternators on eebuygum for £129, morex4 rebuilds at £65 (very good value!) , my local autoelectrical whoelsaler new at £80 cash with no ticket Smile so you can fix them for not too much.

Had the same problem, sounds like the "Blue Relay" has burnt out and your alternator is on the verge of saying goodbye.

Try doing a search on the forums, some very useful information, certainly helped me as I've replaced my alternator today. Very Happy

Can't find the "edit" button so.............

To see if it is the "blue relay" just remove it and start the engine, if all the lights go out then it is.

If it's just the blue charge relay, then the fault with the display lights would stay on.
Also if you have the LCD climate control this won't work either.

The relay is just a N/O and N/C switch, your problem sounds like the voltage regulator on the alternator. new or recon, but thats the way you need to go.

To prove the relay just swap it with the other 5 pin relay next to it.
Been and bought the "T" shirt with this problem.
