|
|
I have been informed by a mate that the leak I have from the gear box is down to a plug/bung, he has advised me to get a metal to metal 'glue' called Aranite. I can't find anything of this name, would anybody be able to correct the name or advise of something else that can fix this.
Cheers

I would imagine he means araldite. My dad fixes just about everything with it, its a two part epoxy. I'd find out what exactly is leaking and why. It may be easy to sort properly by buying a new one. Another optin for this kind of thing is a product called chemical metal. _________________ Phil

Araldite might (possibly MIGHT) stop a leak but you might want to get the plug out again if it's the drain or level plug? Correct sized copper washer will do it surely? _________________ 1994 KZJ70 Cruiser (currently filling the garage and causing some head scratching)

Thanks all, it appears it was a case of chinese whispers and it is araldite.
The situation as he described it was a crack that previously was covered with mastick which he had to remove when changing the clutch
So is chemical metal a better option?

Hi, there are many differing types of epoxy putty, "steel stik" Instant metal etc.
It all comes looking like a stick of rock, with the hardener running through the middle, with gloves on you just mix it up until the streaks have gone.
I used "tank seal" putty on my Honda mower alloy box which was cracked three years ago, no problems
This was from Grahams plumbers merchants,
It sticks like s**t to a blanket as long as you've cleaned the area well.
I think they even sell the stuff in screwfix. _________________ I DIDN'T TOUCH IT, HONEST!

OK, I found the best of both worlds, Araldite super metal. Seemed did the job brilliantly. |
