Hi, I have a 93 3.1td bighorn auto.
The gearbox doesn't select any gear except first although it seems ok in reverse. There isn't the jolt when 'd' is selected does anyone have any ideas?

Mick

Stupid question time: Checked trans fluid? What colour is it?  Does it move at all when you press the throttle? Did this suddenly happen?

First and reverse eh? There is probably a link so anyone who's had one apart will probably know....

Er, welcome to the forum anyway....

I ain't driving mine for a while..... Shocked

Mind you, it's been warm, people have been towing things during summer hols etc etc etc.... Poor little things have probably had to do some hard work!!

Personally, I am going to fit a Trans Cooler before towing again. It's allright short distances, but for anything more I don't reckon the in-rad cooler does it.

The advice from friends in the USA that know a thing or two about auto trannies is to fit the oil cooler to the transmission and then run it back via the in rad cooler, this normalises the temperature and prevents overcooling in winter etc.  At the same time its a good idea to fit a tranny temp gauge somewhere so you can keep an eye on it.
