The device is temperature sensitive and will generally only operate under 10deg c. When depressed the light on the button should only illuminate within the preset temp band... Alternatively if it's cold and it probably is in the UK at present..start the old bird up and nip around to the exhaust..if the valve is closed you will hear a really pronounced hiss sound out of the exhaust..
How do you relieve a stuck valve? god only knows..a big hammer!..

Our resident expert on such matters "Grandad" will have the answer..
Cheers PV

Now you mention it I'm not too sure about mine. Towing the van the other day something gave, it's going fine if not better, but it sounds as if it has an exhaust blow somewhere. I had the tracking done and got them to check for leaks in the exhaust but there were none. I had the cover off the flap and it appears to move fine on the mechanism, could that shear and the flap be closed? It certainly sounds like it's blowing somewhere.

You would notice a drop in power, and prob a lot of smoke on acceleration.

Mine not smokey at all, and it does go quite well, I just feel there is more to come. Trouble is I am comparing it to a VR6 Sharan, which did go well and the Monterey is my first diesel.

You wont get smoke if the exhaust one is stuck, it just restricts the outlet fumes.
If the inlet was stuck the yes as it would throw the mixture out because of the lack of air.

If you intend to use re-refined veg oils and are not going to pre heat  you might have to be quite careful with the mix ratio...  especially if you are in an area that gets excessively cold. Might be prudent to use as a summer option..still should you happen to have a go.. Keep us informed as to how it works..

And as Lynn said, in winter put some anti wax(diesel antifreeze) in or you will be stuck.

i would like to know the outcome of the 50/50 and what harm it could do mines drinking to much as well im getting 40miles to a tenner my 2.8 used to do 35 to a fiver, i dont think i have any flaps stuck although mine sounds like the exhaust is blowing as well but have checked and re checked and no signs of blowing, it seems to accelarate ok no smoke i know on my 2.8 i knocked the switch one day and i thought the exhaust had gone and was really pulling back so would imagine this would do the same if flap was stuck  Question  Question by the way the 35 to fiver was after id opened the pump up a bit as well,

I have heard that you can get a £600 grant to convert to veggie oil and the actual cost of a convertor is £1200 is right and where I can I get this , is it really worth converting in the first place and has anyone else done it .

I would not have thought there was any kind of grant ( i thought using veggie oil was tax evasion) someone please correct me if i am wrong. Now on an off roader that is different but i still cant see a grant being offered. I do however think there is a grant available towards converting a petrol engine to lpg, You can guarentee conditions apply.

The only conversion if needed, is a fuel preheater, to thin the veggie oil, although some vehicles run fine without any modification.
You must pay the duty on it if your going to run legally.
lynne johnson knows all about it.

this is what really winds me up about the government:
Pay duty on SVO, (staight veggie oil). which is carbon neutral,
yet aircraft pay virtually no duty what so ever, they are the biggest polluter of greenhouse gases in the UK.

there are loads of posts regarding veg oil, do a search.

I took the viscouse fan off and put an electric one on, improved economy.
Blanked off my EGR valves aswell.
All together more power and economy.  Smile
