Have you done anything about the valve on the air intake side of your airbox? I'm guessing its a dump valve for unused boost pressure, mine has now been sealed as it was letting water in. Have to fit a proper one like boyracers use 8)

The one bit that worried me was the water drain on the bottom of the airbox. It is supposed to seal closed under negative pressure, but its virtually impossible to test, and also, any bit of wood / mud gets caught in it and it stays open. Cant get rid of it, coz it still needs a drain for those bits of rain that get sucked in.

No not that one, siliconed that straightaway, rain can't get into my Trooper one it's cyclonic (that's what it said on the tin anyway) dribbles get into the Fronty ones when it's wind & rain but not enough to trouble the filters.

On the metal pipe coming off the cover of the airbox, I've got another rubber valve which was described in some Isuzu paperwork somewhere, as a dump valve. Probably because the airbox gets pressurized when it's not revving.

I'll try to find the info tomorrow as I've got a day off Very Happy

never seen one, ill check it out, I know they a small pipe that comes off there which goes round the back of the engine some where never looked, think it may go to the air pump. Question

I have heard about these "cyclonic" ones, apparently they can be retro fitted to standard snorkels. Dont know much about them though, any idea how they work ?

They work for dust to.

They fit them to allot of plant, I guess it swirls the air throwing the dust and water out...........or something, they do work though.

Told you the wrong location for the "valve"! It is on the metal pipe that goes into the side of the airbox. Mind you I can't remember if I used the 2.8 or 3.1 airbox so you might not have one anyway Very Happy

The cyclonic bit is just how the air enters the snorkel top. It is directed to swirl around and anything heavier is thrown outwards and therefore out of the airflow. Isuzu made some oil type cyclonic filter boxes as an option for OZ I think.

Just as an aside to this thread, I telephoned a certain very well-known supplier of 4x4 goodies with a view to buying a Safari snorkel for my BigHorn. Their website advertises them as "available for Isuzu Trooper" (among others). When I called to place my order I did a quick final verbal check.

Me: "Can I just double check please that you have a unit for a 1993 Trooper/BigHorn?"

Them: (After a pause to flick through catalogue) "Nah, it's not listed mate."

Me: "But your website suggests that you have a compatible model. Do you have an engineer or mechanic who could confirm a fit?"

Them: "Dunno mate; we're a Land Rover specialist see. We don't know about other stuff. If you go to the Safari website you can see an exploded diagram and check if it fits from there."

Fantastic. A supposedly premier accessory supplier advertising parts for a Trooper then claiming ignorance because they "are a Land Rover specialist". I've hit this attitude time and time again, and it really pisses me off. Aside from being outstandingly *beep* pre-sales service, it also guarantees that no matter how tempted, I will NEVER buy a *beeb* Land Rover so long as I live.... Grrrr.....

If there are any 'Land Rover specialists' reading this - eat my fumes. Your heap of junk will be a rust pile long after my Trooper has rounded the clock for the second time.

But it might not be a good idea to talk about rust until you've had to weld up the chassis on the back of your Troop Laughing

You could mention Build Quality, Reliability, Speed, Comfort, Driveability, Styling, Fuel Economy, Pollution etc etc etc.....
